Artist's Comments

This photo taken on a foggy evening, with a streetlight providing the otherworldly light. This tree is University of Puget Sound's Characteristic Giant Sequoia.
This photograph won 1st place in a on campus contest to permantly decorate the walls of a new building. It also is my favorite photograph I have taken. I would guess over 30hrs of work went into the final image that won the contest, including planning, taking photographs, careful editing, critiques, and printing.

Updated with cleaner image, new description.

and the big old tree too...

Awesome lighting :) I first thought of the Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe, but then I noticed there was no snow on the ground. *shrugs* either way, "otherwordly" is definitely the right word the mood created. :)

Damn, man. You got the one I was looking for. Was that last night?

*shakes fist in rage*
:iconkiestphoto:
No, it was the 5th. I got some more last night though. I had been working on getting this for a few weeks now. Unlike before, I used a tripod and shot at ISO100, and got it good enough to go 8x10 or beyond. The print is awesome.

The big old tree is our campuses trademark tree, a wonderful characterful tree. Many nights the fog really feels mystical.
Thanks

I see why this took 1st! It's a wonderful piece, extremely interesting lighting. (It's not raining, so can we just consider the fog to just be low hanging rain clouds....) Both outerworld and mysteriousness in this piece. (((On my screen the light seems to cascade downwards from the streetlight, is that "an (cool) effect" or an aborration in my monitor or something else?)))
:iconkiestphoto:
Yes, the light does cascade down from the streetlight, both in reality and the print.
